01The Client

Built for the people who secure the world

CyberRisk Alliance is the business intelligence and media company built for the cybersecurity community. Through trusted brands like SC Media, Security Weekly, and MSSP Alert, CRA connects the practitioners, executives, and solution providers who defend the digital world with the information and community they rely on.

The audience is one of the largest and most influential in cybersecurity: 1.2 million professionals in the CRA community, 10.5 million unique visitors across CRA brands each year, 90 percent of the Fortune 100 represented, and more than 3,000 members in the CyberRisk Collaborative. Ruckus was engaged to activate it, designing and building a segmented email program that turns a vast subscriber base into an engaged, self-identifying community.

02The Challenge

Scale without signal

A subscriber base this large only creates value when it stays engaged. A massive list is an asset only if you know who is listening, and reach alone does not tell CRA which subscribers care about which threats. Inboxes are noisy and attention is finite, so broad, one-size sends let engaged readers drift and leave quiet subscribers quiet. And the community spans distinct disciplines, ransomware, identity, cloud, AI, each demanding its own voice, content, and cadence.

03The Work

Three audiences, seven topic tracks

Ruckus segmented subscribers into three groups built to self-segment by interest and engagement: connected contacts, known relationships across the CRA network invited to go deeper across every topic in the portfolio; identified and engaged subscribers, served topic-specific flows tuned to what they already open and click; and identified but non-engaged subscribers, met with a combined-topic re-engagement track designed to surface their interests.

Seven topic tracks map to the disciplines the community lives in: ransomware, identity and IAM, network security, cloud security, AI, application security, and a cross-topic track built for re-engagement. Every track runs the same five-email flow, from top articles and podcasts through research and resources to newsletter promotion and on-demand events, sequenced to build momentum on a twice-weekly cadence so each send earns the next click.

04The Craft

On the SC Media system, at scale

The team delivered 75 production-ready HTML emails, designed, written, and coded for handoff. Every send was built inside the CyberRisk Alliance design system, SC Red, Titillium Web, and a clean editorial grid, with sharp, creative calls to action that carried the authority of the newsroom into the inbox, so each email looked and felt unmistakably CRA.

05The Outcome

A subscriber base, re-armed for engagement

CRA received a ready-to-run engine: 75 production-ready emails across seven topic tracks, a three-tier audience framework that sorts subscribers by interest and engagement with every send, and a repeatable five-email playbook on a twice-weekly cadence, built to scale across the CRA portfolio of brands.

“The Ruckus process was disciplined from the first scoping session to final handoff. Our team received a complete, deployment-ready program, delivered on cadence and exactly as scoped, and that predictability is rare in creative work.”
