01The Client

One platform for the whole application

Abacooz is an education-technology company built to level the playing field in college admissions. Its platform, Abacooz Edge, gives students and families the content, strategy, and tools once reserved for the world's most expensive consultants, starting as early as middle school. In one place, students understand what colleges want, learn and build an academic specialty, and organize an entire application.

Ruckus handled digital product strategy, web platform design and UX and UI, front-end development, the e-commerce and subscription build, and the payments, cloud, and cybersecurity work underneath it all, then stayed on for ongoing iteration and QA as the product grew year over year.

02The Challenge

From MVP to a real product

Ruckus picked up an unfinished MVP, completed it, then built the full first version of the web platform from wireframe through launch. The brief called for a working consumer product with accounts, tools, content, and commerce behind it, not a brochure site. And it had to carry two revenue engines at once: an ad-supported media site that draws readers in, and a subscription product called Abacooz Plus behind the paywall.

03The Work

The Application Locker

Ruckus organized the platform around three things every student has to do: understand what colleges want, learn and build an academic specialty, and organize the application itself, and made that model the structure of the product. Every tool and module ladders up to the Three Pillars of College Admissions, the client's own framework of academics and intellectual passion, leadership and impact, and specialization over generalization.

The flagship tool is the Application Locker, a 14-section system where a student can draft, preview, and mark complete an entire application in one secure place, then drop each section straight into the real thing, backed by an interactive timeline that keeps every deadline, test date, and interview in view. Around it, Ruckus built searchable program databases, learning modules, real student case studies, and an Ask the Expert channel, all designed, populated, and shipped inside one connected platform.

04The Outcome

A platform that keeps growing

Ruckus took Abacooz Edge from MVP to a live V1 web platform, spanning a subscription product and an ad-supported media site, engineered on payments, cloud, and cybersecurity foundations. Built for every student, not only the ones who could always afford the edge, it put the admissions playbook within reach as early as middle school, and the platform and its content have been iterated year over year since 2021.
