DAVLER MEDIA - CITYGUIDE
The guide in a visitor's hand
City Guide is New York City's longest-running visitor media brand. Published by Davler Media Group, one of the city's largest independent tourism media companies, it reaches millions of visitors a year through its magazine, its City Map, cityguideny.com, and an in-market network of more than a thousand hotel concierges. For four decades it has been the guide in a visitor's hand.
A new issue every week, a new cover story every week, distributed where visitors actually are: more than 400 hotels and 100 other locations across the city. Ruckus was engaged as City Guide's brand and marketing partner, building the brand foundation, sharpening the positioning, and designing the strategy and sales tools to bring it to market.

Judged by a scoreboard it was never built to win
The market scored every media buy on click-based return on ad spend, a metric that ignores offline influence and undercredits the print, map, and concierge touchpoints where City Guide is strongest. Across Broadway, museums, attractions, retail, and restaurants, every advertiser had different goals, with no one story that made the case to all of them. City Guide had the reach and the relationships, but not a modern brand that made its value obvious before a salesperson picked up the phone.

Four pillars and one line
Ruckus built the brand around four pillars, dynamic, essential, exclusive, and quality: fully integrated from print and digital advertising to in-market activation and event planning, premiere access through a concierge network and curated local data, data-driven intelligence with real-time feedback, and a passion for the latest and best of New York.
The positioning was rewritten around what City Guide actually does. Not selling ad space, but guiding millions of visitors to the experiences that make a trip, and guiding businesses to the visitors who matter most. Inspiring experiences, guiding discoveries: one line that gave every seller, in every category, the same clear thing to say.
A new visual system paired Termina headlines with warm, editorial Adelle body copy, and replaced a dated brightness with a confident New York navy anchored by a fresh green and a signal coral. The complete brand book shipped in December 2023, documented page by page for every team that touches the brand.
Influence over impressions
The integrated marketing strategy reframed the entire category. Instead of fighting digital on its own scoreboard, Ruckus made the case for influence over impressions, showing businesses how City Guide's print, map, and concierge presence reaches in-market buyers that click-based metrics miss. At its center sat a four-part video series concept, from the hidden costs of chasing ROAS to the blended model that pairs digital reach with real-world presence.
Ruckus designed the eight-panel Guiding Discoveries brochure that walks any advertiser through the case, then reengineered the media kit and one-sheets into a modular, story-driven selling tool a rep can walk a Broadway producer through in thirty minutes, anchored by the TEA Framework, a five-driver lens for how tourism media moves in-market decisions.
From media seller to modern brand
Ruckus gave City Guide its first modern brand foundation, plus an integrated strategy and a sales system where every piece the team hands an advertiser speaks in one voice. The engagement has run multiple years, still shaping how City Guide shows up and sells today.
